After 7 years of literally being thrown backwards and forwards every time the auto box in my Triumph Stag changes gear, I've decided enough is enough. On 12th July, I'm taking the Triumph Stag to Enginuity so they can replace the aging Borg Warner 35 3 speed box with a shiny new ZF 4 speed box.
Smoother gear changes? Better Acceleration and Top End?
How often are you getting out in the stag nowaday? Is it the family car of choice now for the Puddephats or do you all squeeze in Maria's car if you are going anywhere?
Yeah, it's expensive - about £2,000. But it's not like I have a lot of choice. The current gearbox is leaking oil all over the place. I could have gone for a recon Stag box and probably have the same problems again. I hope it will be money well spent. Yes, the gear changes will be smoother and the acceleration better. I never take the car much above 70 mph, so I won't notice any changes to the top end speed.
When the Stag's running, I get out in it once or twice every couple of weeks just to keep it ticking over. But to be honest, we normally take Maria's Fiesta if we're going somewhere as a family.
