Celebrating 10 years online

This website has been online for 10 years. Thanks to everyone who has contributed over the years!

A big thank you to everyone who has contributed to this website over the last 10 years. I've enjoyed creating this site and I hope you've all enjoyed using it.

For those of you who are interested, this site was originally built using "classic" Microsoft Active Server Pages (ASP) and much of the supporting code was written in Visual Basic Script Edition (VBScript). Classic ASP was Microsoft's first server-side script engine for dynamically generated web pages. Around 2001 I moved the site from classic ASP to ASP.NET, which involved converting all of my VBScript over to C#. Finally, around two years ago I ported the ASP.NET code over to ASP.NET Model View Controller (MVC) - a web application framework based on ASP.NET that implements the model-view-controller (MVC) pattern. SQL server is used to store comments and other bits and pieces.

Here are some stats for you:

  • The number of registered users on this site (although most are no longer active): 329
  • The number of comments posted: 12,149
  • The number of web pages: 1,527
  • The number of images / photos etc uploaded: 4373

Long may the site continue and I'll leave you with some nostalgia... Here's a snapshot of the website as it appeared in 2002 / 2003:
