I'm very tired. It's 12:48am on Friday 10th October 2003. Why am I up so late? Because I've been working on my website. "I can't see any changes to your website", you all shout. And you're right. For you web surfers, the website will look exactly the same as it did yesterday (apart from this new Blog). However, under the covers some fundamental changes have been made....
This is the first Blog entry that I have made without having to directly insert data into the database tables using Enterprise Manager. Yep, I used my new web site content management system. As a user with administration rights, I see links that you guys don't. These links (when clicked) allow me to perform tasks such as adding, deleting or editing documents (or content).
Everything happens through a web browser. I create content with a WYSIWYG editor that sits in my web browser. It's like using Microsoft Word. I graphically design my documents. Then hit update. Bish, bash, bosh - my documents are uploaded to the web server. And it needn't just be plain HTML. You can upload images or any other kinds of resources.
I think that's rather clever. Rather clever indeed. Of course, there's still more work to be done. For example, I can't create a new set of photos without using Enterprise Manager to insert data into the database tables. But I'm working on it. There's always more work to be done...
Now. Where's my bed!?
PS - If you are reading this Blog entry and noticed that it was posted on 9th October, when I said it was written during the morning of 10th October, then please don't worry. The web server is located in Louisville, Kentucky, USA, while I am located in the UK. Louisville is 5 hours behind us. Yep. Time zones. More development work required....
